The catalog presents Alternative Film & Video 2017 edition dedicated to Subversion. The retrospective "Subversion in Yugoslav Film,“ curated by Slobodan Šijan, points to the roots of the radical formal subversion initiated by the "Antifilm" movement and the films of Mihovil Pansini, Tom Gotovac and others, as well as to the beginnings of subversion of the political system in the films of Makavejev, Žilnik etc., later labeled as "the Black Wave.“ The retrospectives of Bojan Jovanović, Miloje Radaković and Miroslav Bata Petrović, „Don’t Believe in Subversion“ exhibition, round tables and the Research Forum, are places where the history and theory of film subversion is explored. The classical feature masterpieces of Serbian subversive cinema are presented: "Early Works" by Želimir Žilnik, "W.R. the Mysteries of the Organism" by Dušan Makavejev and "Plastic Jesus" by Lazar Stojanović. The exhibition of video installations "From the other Side" by the author Anica Vučetić is presented, as well asThe retrospective of video works by Sonja Savic, realized in cooperation with the Nadežda Petrović Gallery from Čačak. The NEOZOON Collective, a female artistic duo founded in 2009 in Berlin and Paris, curated the selection of their works, and led the found-footage workshop on making films from materials found on the Internet. Jury members present their works as well: Lordan Zafranović his amateur films, while Miloš Radivojević his "Film Without Words", in which Dragan Nikolić guides the viewers through the life of his character, in 26 scenes, without any spoken words, just by using his body, in a manner of performance or monodrama - a complete subversion of the fiction film structure. A German artist Hito Steyerl present her films as well as How Not to be Seen. A Fucking Didactic Educational .MOV File, a video that represented Germany at the Venice Biennale, suggesting how and why to become invisible in the world of high-resolution digital images. The jury selected films for the festival’s "List of Significant Works", and the film that starts the competition program was the short experimental film by Milcho Manchevski "The End of Time", shot in Cuba.
