André Castro (1983, Lisbon) is a media designer, with a background in sound art and experimental music. He graduated in Sonic Arts at the Middlesex University (BA, 2007) and in Networked Media from the Piet Zwart Institute (MA, 2013). His works, although often different in form, have in common the employment and exploration of sound and technology. A great part of these projects has been created in collaboration with designers, visual artists and choreographers. In recent years he has developed an interest for the potential and imaginary of the radio. For this medium, he has created the sound installation Radio Fragments, and the radiophonic documentaries Subterrâneos de Lisboa, and Boat People. Since 2009 has begun to explore the world of electronics. Such incursions have resulted in the Tactile Noise Project, which has materialized itself into electronic instruments and workshops. He works as a tutor at the Master of Media Design and Communication at the Piet Zwart Institute and at Willem de Kooning's Publication Station. He lives in Rotterdam.
