Christiane Voss has been Professor of Audiovisual Media and Media Philosophy at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 2010. Having studied philosophy and linguistics at Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Freie Universität Berlin and Universität Wien, Voss received her Ph.D. in 2003 with a dissertation thesis on philosophical theories of emotions. From 2003 to 2009, she was a Lecturer and Assistant Researcher at the seminar for film studies at Freie Universität Berlin where she participated in a research group formed by Gertrud Koch (“Zur Bedeutung der medienspezifischen Illusionsbildung”). In 2009, Voss held a visiting position as Professor of Media Philosophy at the Faculty of Media in Weimar. She finished her habilitation on the aesthetics of the illusion at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt in 2010 (published as Der Leihkörper. Erkenntnis und Ästhetik der Illusion).

She also works as documentary filmmaker (Ich dich auch, 2005 and Endlich, 2011), and co-wrote Tom Tykwer’s debut film Die tödliche Maria (1993) and served as script consultant for Lola rennt (1998).
