Born and raised in New Mexico, she has lived and worked in Europe since 1993 - [[Budapest]] in 90's and [[Berlin]] in the 2000's. She is a co-founder of the [[Faces]] mailing list for women in media, and a collaborator of the "Prologue: New Feminism New Europe" project. She is actively engaged working on radio projects, mostly in Berlin, currently [[reboot.fm]] and www.hkw.de/hausradio. In the past, it was backyardradio.de, Radio 1:1, Reboot.fm and Juniradio. She is also a founding member of the [[Radia.FM]] network of cultural radios. McCarty was part of the International Women’s University server development team, and worked with Seda Gürses, Barbara Schelkle, Prof. Heidi Schelhowe, and Heiki Pisch – amoungst others to develop feminist pedagogical approaches to learning technology.
