In its programme the quarterly magazine EIKON, founded 1991 and published by the "ÖIP-Austrian Institute for Photography and Media Art", focuses on Austrian and international media arts with special emphasis on fine art photography and its significance in the New Media, i.e. in the intermedia context. The presentational part comprises the artistic as well as theoretical contributions. Our main concern is to present young media artists and international media art. The EIKON-team is naturally not only intent on reporting on international art, but also on intensifying the international promotion of Austrian works of art.

Furthermore EIKON presents the so called Edition EIKON. These affordable and strictly limited photography editions (appr. 25 pieces) are realized in close collaboration with the presented artists.

EIKON has also a comprehensive, public library. Visitors are always welcome to our office in the Museumsquarter Vienna.

Since its foundation EIKON arranges events to support the public discourse in Austria. The so-called "EIKON PhotoTalks" are regular panel discussions which bring together artists, experts and the public audience in a new interrelation.
