Her Ph.D. thesis is entitled ''Vina tragică, Tragicii Greci, Shakespeare, Dostoievski, Kafka''/ ''Tragic Quilt (The Greek Tragedians, Shakespeare, Dostoyevsky, Kafka). Mălăncioiu considers poetry to be a natural expression of living. Reviewers have said she is unique in writing almost exclusively about the soul and about death themes in her poems; moreover, readers of her and her poems make readers feel that the poet knows what hell means. She are convinced that she understands the meaning of hell or eternal punishment; she believes that life is the highest value, and death together with living without purpose are the greatest transgressions a person can make. Mălăncioiu cites George Bacovia as her favorite poet and her work echoes his themes.
