Born 1947, Bergen op Zoom, NL. Studied art history and archaeology at the University of Louvain, BE, and at Utrecht University, NL. 1968 founding member of Compos 68. 1975 assistant professor at the department of medieval art, Institute for Art History, Utrecht University. 1978 associate professor of art history, department of art history and archaeology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he was tenured until 2005. Since 2006 art consultant. He lives in Utrecht. source
