Maria Karagianni is an artist based in Rotterdam. Born 1979 in Athens. She studied photography and graphic arts at the Fine Arts School of Athens and holds a masters in media design from the Piet Zwart Institute of Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam (2008). She creates software and hardware tools for interactive performances using and connecting different elements including graphics, light, and sound. She also works as a freelance web designer. Maria has collaborated with choreographer Thomas Körtvélyessy and composer Sjoerd Leijten for projects reflecting authorship and open/closed structures in dance composition. She has also given lectures about the complexities of copyright licensing in the U.K. She is a member of the Genderchangers, Open Mode and Media Liberation Front/Feminism collectives.
