Minimal club
minimal club is a group of artists from Munich and Berlin, founded in 1983, consisting of Elfe Brandenburger, Sabeth Buchmann, Stephan Geene and Mano Wittmann. Their works look at issues of technology, gender, and political theory. Numerous plays for theater, video works, texts, and installations. In 1985, Michel Foucaults Theatrum Philosophicum was premiered and the accompanying book published in 1996. From 1989-1999 A.N.Y.P. (Anti New York Pläne) // Zeitung für 10 Jahre was published once a year with authors such as Katja Diefenbach, Diedrich Diederichsen, Andreas Siekmann, Alice Creischer, Renate Lorenz, Jochen Becker. A fellowship at Künstlerhaus Bethanien brought the group to Berlin in 1990, where they became part of the activist art scene and participated in the organization of the inner city action days, Messe2Ok, Minus 96 or Open Air 1993 (Rembertikreisel, Bremen). An event organized by BüroBert, Düsseldorf, during the Cologne art fair or counter-fair unfair in the vacant Päffgen led to the publication copy-shop, a few years later to geld.beat.synthetic / CopyShop 2. Abwerten bio/technologischer Annahmen (Edition id-Archiv, Amsterdam/Berlin).
The group dissolved into other activities such as the Berlin bookselling and publishing collective b_books. In 2015, the Viennese exhibition to expose to show... at the mumok documented the work of minimal club. Elfe Brandenburger, Sabeth Buchmann and Stephan Geene updated and commented on their own work for this occasion. (2017)
