Oľga Smetanová studied accordion and Music Theory at the Academy of Music and Drama in Bratislava (1982-1985). From 1988, she worked for the Slovak Music Information Centre of the Music Fund as the editor-in-chief of the Slovak Music journal and manager of the Evenings of New Music festival. From 1992 to 1999 she was director of the Slovak Music Information Centre. Afterwards, from 1999-2015 she was director of the Music Centre Slovakia, a public institution facilitating documentary, performing and publishing activities in Slovakia, including Bratislava Music Days, the festival for contemporary music Melos-Étos, and Allegretto Žilina. A variety of interviews, professional articles and radio programmes complete Smetanová's professional work. She lives in Bratislava.
