Reader at the Institute for Art Theory and Media Studies, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest and at the Media Research Centre, Budapest University of Technology. His research interest is 20th-21st century Hungarian art history – especially the waves of the avantgarde movement -, theory and practice of contemporary art, and the cultural context of new media. He is the author of 12 books and hundreds of journal articles.

From the beginning of the nineties he has been the initiator of and consultant for various projects concerning media (e.g. Wolfson College Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy; National Digital Data Archives of Hungary; the Hungarian version of Université de tous les savoirs). He is the founder of a number of institutions and programmes (e.g. the Media Centre and MA programme in Communication Studies at ELTE, the Media Research Centre at BME).

He has been invited to many universities and other scholarly institutions – e.g. New School for Social Research, New York City; New York University; Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Ljubljana.

He is the member of the Hungarian Society for Philosophy, the International Press Institute, The Slovenian Society for Aesthetics and the American Society for Aesthetics.
