Philippe Dubois
A native of Verviers, Philippe Dubois studied Romance Philology at the University of Liège. In 1974 he defended a dissertation on surrealism, supervised by Jacques Dubois and Jean-Marie Klinkenberg. He subsequently continued his curriculum by studying communication, integrating the very new ‘8th department’ of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters.
He then began a thesis on wordplay in French literature as a FNRS Research Fellow. He was later appointed lecturer at the ULg before becoming Professor. During the same period he published a book which met with great success, The Photographic Act and other essays. These were his first steps in the study of the image. He subsequently developed an interest in video, the cinema, and initiated a genuine sensibility on the question within the Faculty [1].
