Born in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, Beekman currently lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria. Beekman co-organizes a number of projects, including xfilm lectures, Dorkbot Sofia and Ignite Sofia. He was part of the team that founded the Digital Arts programme at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, where he has also taught between 2008 and 2016.
