Sophie Lissitzky-Küppers (1891- 1978), born as Sophie Schneider was a German art historian, patron of the avant-garde, author and art collector. She was first married to Paul Erich Küppers, the first director of the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover, and married the second time with the Russian painter and architect El Lissitzky. She followed him in 1927 in the Soviet Union. After the death of the architect in 1941, she was exiled during the Second World War as enemy of war to Novosibirsk. She lived there until her death in 1978.
