Verena Kuni

Born 1966, Verena Kuni is scholar and writer in the field of history and theory of art and media cultures and professor for Visual Culture at Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main.

She is lecturing, researching and teaching at universities and art academies in Europe and beyond since 1996; including the University Mainz (Art Theory), Trier (Art History), the Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Frankfurt (Interdisziplinary Gender Studies), and the Institute for Media Sciences (ifm) at the University of Basel. She did the project gender/medien/kunst at the Academy of Design Offenbach.

Her curatorial work is dedicated to trans- and interdisciplinary projects at the interface of theory and practice. Her research focusses a. o. to transfers between material and media cultures; media of imagination and technologies of transformation; alternate realities; urban biotopes; DIY and prosumer cultures; games, play and toys as tools. 1995–1999 video curator of the Dokumentarfilm & Videofest Kassel and since 1999 chair of the interfiction-conference for electronic art & media culture [1].

She has published widely on contemporary art, electronic media and gender studies (since 1989): netz.kunst 1999 and urtux. Kunst als Utopie 2002 (both with Institut für Moderne Kunst Nürnberg), alo est vera. gender/medien/kunst (with Eva Huber), 2004; lives and works in Frankfurt/Main and Basel (CH).

Since 1997, she runs her own radio shows on RadioX/Ffm. She is also co-founder and webmaster of the “filiale zeitgenössiche kunst gender vermittlung” [2] and a member of the Old Boys Network.
