Visual Culture Research Center at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Kiev emerged in 2008 as an institutionalization of the activities held by a group of scholars, artists and students at the Department of Cultural Studies. The center was conceived as a platform for the integration of contemporary artistic practices and scientific disciplines within the academic field. Since 2009 the center is occupying the premises of the former CCA founded by George Soros at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, sharing its space with the university library. The center’s primary aim is to create an interdisciplinary environment that would contribute to the analysis of Ukraine’s post-Soviet condition in terms of art, knowledge and politics. The chief activities of the center are seminars, self-education, publishing and exhibition making.
