Ladislav Kesner is a senior researcher at the Center for Advanced Studies of Brain and Consciousness at the National Institute of Mental Health, Czechia. He is a lecturer of art history and theory at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University in Brno.

His research focuses mainly on cognitive and affective mechanisms of perception and experience of (artistic and media) images and image-texts using psychological, behavioural and neuroimaging methods. Among other things, he is interested in exploring the mechanisms by which media representations affect the psyche and mental health.

He graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague and did postdoctoral research at the University of California at Berkeley and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. He has been a researcher at the Getty Research Institute for the History of Art and Humanities in Los Angeles, the Internationales Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften in Vienna, and the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Chicago and Humboldt University in Berlin. He is the author or co-author of more than 15 books. (2023)
