Wencke Mühleisen (1953) is a researcher in gender and media at the University of Stavanger. From 1978 to 1989 she was active as a performance artist, dealing with themes such as gender, sexuality, feminism and politics. From 1976 to 1985 she lived in Austria in Otto Muehl's commune. She made her debut as a novelist with I Should Have Lifted You Carefully Over in 2010, and has published numerous books within different genres. She has a Norwegian mother and a Slovenian-Austrian father.
