Born 1962. Has a background in philosophy and theatre. Founder/publisher of the theatre and art magazine 'Alligator'. As director of the Summerfestival Amsterdam initiated several mediaprojects (f.i. The Wetware Convention and Live Magazine). [[1993]] initiated and co-founded De Digitale Stad (DDS), the first [[Digital City]] on the Internet. She was the 'digital mayor' till 1996. Co-founder and director of the Society for Old and New Media (since 1996 [[Waag Society]]). Waag Futurelab reinforces critical reflection on technology, develops technological and social design skills, and encourages social innovation. Marleen leads the trans-disciplinary team of designers, artists and scientists, utilising Public Research and Key Enabling Methodologies to empower people to participate in the collective design of open, fair and inclusive futures. Marleen founded 'De Digitale Stad' (The Digital City) in 1993, the first virtual community introducing free public access to the Internet in Amsterdam.
