Adnan Hadzi is undertaking a practice-based PhD, 'the author vs. the collective', that focuses on the influence of digitalisation and the new forms of (documentary-) film production, as well as the author's rights in relation to collective authorship. Thus artistic practice as research becomes important in order to discuss 'Access to Technology', a key point for digital/social media. It is through Free and Open Source Software and technologies his research has a social impact. Currently Hadzi is a participant researcher in the strategic partnerships project Experience and immersive technologies - from creative practice to educational theory, following the successfully finished H2020 MAZIzone research project. Hadzi is co-editing and producing the after.video computer book series, exploring video as theory, reflecting upon networked video, as it profoundly re-shapes medial patterns.

In 2013 he released ''Bitter Lemons'' documentary mapping lemon grovers on both sides of the no man’s land of Cyprus. Hadzi’s current documentary project focuses on his involvement in the media arts collective [[!Mediengruppe Bitnik]]. A collective of contemporary artists working on and with the Internet. Bitnik’s practice expands from the digital to affect physical spaces, often intentionally applying loss of control to challenge established structures and mechanisms. Adnan Hadzi is a resident academic at the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, University of Malta.
