Guttorm Nordø
Guttorm Nordø (born 1960, Trondheim) is a visual artist, photographer, filmmaker, musician, and writer. As a visual artist, he works with drawing, painting, and graphic art, among other things. Nordø's images appear as small stories that invite personal interpretation. They offer no explanations or ready-made answers.
Guttorm Nordø has participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Norway and abroad. His art has been purchased by, among others, the Norwegian Cultural Council, the National Library, the Preus Museum, and the National Gallery. He has had public decoration commissions in Trondheim, Larvik, Drammen, Dokka, Oslo, and Horten.
Guttorm Nordø is a multi-artist. From 1979 to the end of the 1990s, he was a guitarist and bassist in bands such as Kjærnefamilien, Syk Kjærlighet, Angor Wat, and Sunshine Kids. He has written extensively and has had texts published in UKS-Nytt, Morgenbladet, Folk & Røvere, Nye Oppstøt, Billedkunstneren, and various underground magazines. He has published the books INK! (2019) and TEKST! (2021) through his own publishing house (Idiot Press).
From 1985 to 2006, Nordø was editor and publisher of the international art and Mail Art magazine El Djarida. Parts of this activity can be seen in a collection at the National Library (Guttorm Nordø's Mail Art archive). This collection consists of approximately eight thousand cataloged objects, including artworks, articles, music, and artifacts.
Guttorm Nordø graduated from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts in 1987. He lives and works in Vestfold. (2024)
