In the 1970s and 80s, the Department of Media Study at the State University of New York at Buffalo became one the most influential schools for media studies in the United States. The Department of Media Study was founded by Gerald O’Grady and often associated with artists instructors like Tony Conrad, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Hollis Frampton, Paul Sharits, documentary filmmaker James Blue, and Peter Weibel.
