Vít Janeček is a filmmaker, producer and mentor. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University in Prague (film studies) and FAMU (documentary). His creative interest lies in examining transversal aspects of reality - science, politics, society and thought. He contributes to various newspapers and web media. He curated film programmes in the 90s (in Prague's Roxy, Archa Theatre and historical retrospectives at several editions of IFF Karlovy Vary). Between 2002 and 2021 he taught as an associate professor at FAMU, where he co-founded and directed the FAMU Centre for Audiovisual Studies. Between 2012 and 2015 he worked as the director of FAMU International, the English section of FAMU, and since its establishment in 2012 he has directed the international FAMU Summer Campus. Together with his partner, Slovak director and producer Zuzana Piussi, they founded D1film production, since 2015 they focus on producing films with socially relevant themes, in 2019 they founded sister company VIRUSfilm in Slovakia. In 2023 he initiated and co-founded the company Atlas Cinema, which reopened the recently closed traditional Atlas Cinema in the centre of Prague, which he runs together with his family and friends. His special interest is educational and production activities in Burma (Myanmar) within the FAMU Burma project, which he has been leading since 2006.
