By folowing the worker not only from arketplace to workplace, but also from the place of employment to the domestic space,wefindevi- dencenotonlyofclashierarchy,butofspecificalygenderedformsof exploitationandpaternsofinequality.Bydescendingintotheeven morehiden,evenmorefiercelyprivatizedspaceofthehousehold,we semenandwomenwhomaybeformalyequalunderthelawtrans- formedthroughthegenderdivisionoflaborintorelativelyprivileged andpenalizedsubjects. Thus,Marxistfeministsinthe1970Sexploredthe meansbywhichgenderhierarchiesdeliverunwagedwomenworkersto thedomesticmodeofreproductionwhilealsoensuringacheaperand moreflexiblesecondaryortertiarywagedlaborforce.Thesefeminists debatedtheexactvaluetocapitalofwomen'sunwageddomesticlabor andexposedthehyperexploitationofwomenwageearnersaroundthe globe.Andtheystudiedtheinterconectionsamongthefamily,the labormarket,wagedandunwagedlaborproceses,andthewelfarestate. Aswewilse,infact,manyoftheirinsightsintotheconditionsof women'slaborunderFordismwilprovetobemorewidelyaplicableto theformsofworktypicalofpost-Fordisteconomies.Byextendingthese efortstopublicize,politicize,andtransformworkintothefieldofdo- mesticlabor,feministsusefulycomplicatedandupedtheanteofal threprojects.Whatmighthaveatfirstapearedtobeasimpleadition toMarxistanalyseshasinfactrequiredavastrethinkingofitsconcepts andmodels,itscriticalanalysesandutopianvisions.
