Born 1948 in Bremen. She is one of the internationally most wellknown contemporary sound artists. Having studied painting, music, and electronic engineering, she pursued her artistic activities as a solo performer in the 1970s, after which she started creating sound sculptures and installations. Trained as a composer (she studied with Franco Donatoni in Milan, and Mauricio Kagel in Darmstadt), she has artistically developed such techniques as magnetic induction to realize her spatial installations of sound, light and music. She has been invited to exhibit at numerous international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale (1982) and Documenta 8 (1987). Ars Electronica, Linz (1987), Biennale, Sydney (1990) Donaueschinger Musiktage (1993 und 1997), Sonambiente, Berlin (1996), In Medias Res, Istanbul (1997), Sonic Boom, London (2000), Visual Sound, Pittsburgh (2001), Sounding Spaces, Tokyo (2003), Per-Son Köln (2004).
