Alastair Bonnett (1964) is Professor of Social Geography at Newcastle University. He has written on diverse topics including forgotten and overlooked place, nostalgia and memory, the rise of racism and “whiteness,” and geographical theories of the avant-garde. His books include The Idea of the West (2004); What is Geography? (2008); How to Argue (2008); Left in the Past (2010); Unruly Places: Lost Spaces, Secret Cities, and Other Inscrutable Geographies (2014); and Beyond the Map (2017). (2019)
