Composer , conductor, musicologist and professor Anatol Vieru studied music in Bucharest (1946-1949) with Leon Klepper, Constantin Silvestri, Paul Constantinescu and later in Moscow (1951-1954) with Aram Khachaturian. In 1967 he followed the Darmstadt summer courses. His musical debut with Suite in Old Style (1946 ). Among the first papers still include the oratorio Miorita, String Quartets no. 1 and 2, Concerto for flute. In 1955 starts professorial career at the University of Music in Bucharest activity that worked with dedication until the end of life. In the '70s, will initiate a series of concerts "Music of parallel " with works by Lassus, Ives, Scriabin, Schoenberg, Varese, Schnittke and others. Worrying about the musicological formulations, such as in 1980 in Bucharest will publish Cartea modurilor (The book modes), which will receive a PhD in musicology. He will publish studies and gives lectures at Darmstadt, Jerusalem, New York, Chicago, Seattle, Long Beach, Regina (Canada). Between 1992-1993 he was resident composer at New York University.
