Arie Altena (1966) studied Literary Theory and writes about the intersections between art, technology and new media. He curates the [[Sonic Acts|Sonic Acts Festival]] and works for [[V2_|V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media]] in Rotterdam. For Sonic Acts he (co-)edited the Kontraste Cahier series and the publications ''The Dark Universe'' (2013), ''Travelling Time'' (2012), ''669 woorden over lezen'' (2011), ''The Poetics of Space'' (2010), ''The Cinematic Experience'' (2008), ''The Anthology of Computer Art'' (2006) and ''Unsorted, Thoughts on the Information Arts''  (2004). He regularly contributes to magazines like ''Open'' and ''De Gids'', and lectures at art academies. In the past he worked for [[Mediamatic]] and [[Metropolis M]], he was core tutor at the MA Interactive Media and Environments of the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen, and he was part of the Ubiscribe-project at the [[Jan van Eyck Academy]], Maastricht. Studied Literary Theory at the University of Amsterdam and spent 4 years there as a PhD-student, working on American postmodernist literature. I never finished my PhD because at the time (1994) WWW and HTML were far more exciting, and I became involved with new media and the internet.
