Christiane Paul
Christiane Paul is an Associate Professor in the School of Media Studies at The New School, and Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.
Paul received both her MA and PhD from the University of Düsseldorf. She has written extensively on new media arts and has lectured internationally on art and technology.
As Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts at the Whitney Museum of American Art, she curated several exhibitions, including Cory Arcangel: Pro Tools (2011), Profiling (2007), and Data Dynamics (2001) and the net art selection for the 2002 Whitney Biennial. She also curates Artport, the Whitney Museum’s website devoted to Internet art. Her other recent curatorial work includes What Lies Beneath (Borusan Contemporary, Istanbul, 2015), The Public Private (Kellen Gallery, The New School, 2013), Eduardo Kac: Biotopes, Lagoglyphs and Transgenic Works (Rio de Janeiro, 2010), Biennale Quadrilaterale (Rijeka, Croatia, 2009–2010); Feedforward: The Angel of History (co-curated with Steve Dietz; Laboral Center for Art and Industrial Creation, Gijon, Spain, 2009); INDAF Digital Art Festival (Inchon, South Korea, 2009); and Scalable Relations (Beall Center for Art and Technology, Irvine, California, 2009).
Dr. Paul taught in the School of Visual Arts’ MFA Computer Art department from 1999 to 2008, in the Rhode Island School of Design’s Digital+Media department from 2005 to 2008, and at the San Francisco Art Institute and the University of California at Berkeley’s Center of New Media in 2008.
