John McHale (1922-1978) was an artist, theorist, sociologist and researcher in future studies who took part in the invention of Pop Art in London in the 1950s with the Independent Group. He then moved to the USA and worked with Richard Buckminster Fuller in future studies.

His research themes, in his works of art and writings, were information society, popular culture, mass media, globalisation, ecology, the the pace of technological change and its impact on society.
