Born 1963 in Bludenz. She studied History of Art, Classical Archaeology and Journalism in Salzburg. Since 1994 she has worked in the Vienna Secession as a curator and event organizer. After diverse commissions as a curator Rhomberg was one of the persons responsible for Manifesta 3 held in Ljubljana in 2000. On 1 January 2002 she became director of the Kölnischer Kunstverein (Cologne Art Association). With an ambitious volume about Július Koller, produced in 2003 together with the editor Roman Ondák, she has helped make this Slovak painter known to a broader public. As an experienced observer of the Central and East European art scene, Kathrin Rhomberg was entrusted by Boris Marte in September 2002 with the development of the Tranzit project.
