Born 1960 in Moscow. Studied fine arts, architecture and computer science. M.A. in cognitive science from NYU (1988) and Ph.D. in visual and cultural studies from University of Rochester (1993). Professor of visual arts at University of California in San Diego, where he teaches new media art and theory.
