Maxfield Gassmann has studied filmmaking; sound design and production; theatrical set design, costume and makeup; and welding at San Francisco City College and Emerson College in Boston. He holds a B.A. in Cultural History and Film from Lesley College, Boston, and a certificate in bicycle mechanics from Pedal Revolution in San Francisco.

With over 10 years of professional experience as a bicycle mechanic with his own mobile bike repair business, Verruecktritt Cycles, Max also creates “Mutant Bikes" and has led creative bike-building workshops for Papergirl Berlin. With Mara he co-created the fashion accessories line y2k ( Skin 1.5) using upcycled bike rests for sale at design fairs and markets.

As a musician he co-leads the trance-rock band Brace/Choir, where he writes, sings, plays guitar, keyboards and drums. He also plays percussion, voice and non-traditional instruments in the Berlin art rock band Kulku. Under the artistic name Delikassette, he has produced two experimental solo albums entitled 20th Century Heartache (2008) and Particles Collide (2010). Other past projects include: playing self made percussion instruments in the Berlin based Haferflocken Swingers, and performing on the streets of Barcelona, Paris and Berlin as Gran Basura with instruments made from piano wire and trash.
