Dr. Reuben Fowkes is the initiator of the [[SocialEast Forum]], which considers the art and visual culture of Eastern Europe through collaborative projects, exhibitions and seminars. His research interests include: conceptual art, contemporary art, sustainability, Socialist Realism, the East European art underground, and the politics of public monuments. He co-curated the exhibition Revolution is not a Garden Party to mark the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian Uprising in 2006-7. His current curatorial project is 'Revolution I Love You: 1968 in Art, Politics and Philosophy', which will travel to Centre for Contemporary Art Thessaloniki, Trafo Gallery Budapest and International Project Space Birmingham during 2008.

Reuben Fowkes is co-director of the Post-socialist Art Centre (PACT) at the UCL Institute of Advanced Studies, UCL and co-founder of the Translocal Institute for Contemporary Art. His publications include Art and Climate Change (Thames & Hudson, 2022), Central and Eastern European Art Since 1950 (Thames & Hudson, 2020), Ilona Németh: Eastern Sugar (Sternberg Press, 2021) and a special issue of Third Text on ‘Actually Existing Artworlds of Socialism’ (2018).
