Born 1940 in Reykjavik. Studied languages and music at the music conservatory in Prague. 1965 emigration to New York with Woody Vasulka, works as a freelance musician. Since 1969 experimentation with electronic media. 1971 co-founder of The Kitchen. 1974 moves to Buffalo, New York, and experiments with the camera as an autonomous imaging instrument in what would become the Machine Vision series. 1980 moves to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and continues her work in video, media performance, and video installation. 1992 American Film Institute Maya Deren Award. 1995 Siemens Media Art Prize at the Multimediale 4. Has taught at the Academy for Applied Arts, Vienna, the Institute for New Media at the Staedelschule, Frankfurt, and the College of Arts and Crafts, Reykjavik. Lives in Santa Fe.
