Suzana Milevska is an art historian and theorist of visual culture from Skopje, North Macedonia. Her research and theoretical interests span from postcolonial critique of representational regimes of hegemonic power in art and visual culture, construction of visual memory in photographic imagery and institutional or private archives, art practices in postsocialist and transitional societies, history of exhibitions addressing gender difference and feminist art, as well as collaborative, participatory and activist art practices in marginalized communities. Most recently she was Principal Investigator of the project Transmitting of Contentious Cultural Heritages through the Arts (TRACES) in the frame of the EU program Horizon 2020 Polytechnic University Milan, from 2016 to 2019. Milevska was appointed the first Endowed Professor in Central and South Eastern European Art Histories at the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna (2013-2015). She was teaching in parallel visual cultures at the Technical University in Vienna (2013-2016). From 2010-2012 she taught art history and theory of visual art at the Faculty of Fine Arts – University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. From 2006 to 2008, she initiated and was the Director of the Center for Visual and Cultural Research at the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Institute “Euro-Balkan” in Skopje and she taught Visual Culture to M.A. students in Gender Studies. In 2013 and 2018 she was a visiting lecturer in Visual Culture and Gender at Gender Studies Department, University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje.

Milevska holds a Ph.D. in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths College in London (2006) and she was a Visiting Tutor at Goldsmiths (2003 to 2005). In 2004, she was a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar in Library of Congress. Her publishing records range from critical reviews and theoretical texts in art magazines, peer reviewed academic journals and exhibition catalogues to chapters in academic publications and editing and publishing individual books. She edited The Renaming Machine (Ljubljana: P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute, 2010) and On Productive Shame, Reconciliation, and Agency (Sternberg Press, 2016) and published her book Gender Difference in the Balkans (Saarbrucken, Germany: VDM Verlag, 2010). Milevska is a member of the Advisory Boards of the journals World Art, Routledge, Zivot Umjetnosti, Zagreb, and ArtMargins. She is a member of AICA (since 1995), IKT (since 2005) and AAMC (since 2017). Currently she lives and works as independent scholar in Skopje, with her partner – the artist Saso Stanojkovik. (2023)
