(b. 1956) is one of the few computer composers in Moscow who is known for adhering to traditions, as exemplified by his 'Variations on a Choral by Gesualdo". Katayev creates both computer music and tradi- tional music. His music is rational, like Ulyanich's, but in each genre Katayev keeps his own identity. His antimodernism slightly reduces his reputation among the elite.
