The Visual Culture Research Center (Центр візуальної культури, VCRC) in Kyiv emerged in 2008 as an institutionalization of the activities held by a group of scholars, artists and students at the Department of Cultural Studies at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The center has been conceived as a platform for the integration of contemporary artistic practices and scientific disciplines within the academic field. The center’s primary aim is to create an interdisciplinary environment that would contribute to the analysis of Ukraine’s post-Soviet condition in terms of art, knowledge and politics. Its chief activities are publishing and artistic activities, scientific research, organization of public lectures, discussions, and conferences. VCRC has received the European Cultural Foundation’s Princess Margriet Award for Culture in 2015, and the Igor Zabel Award Grant for Culture and Theory 2018.

The Visual Culture Research Center was an organiser of The School of Kyiv – Kyiv Biennial 2015, The Kyiv International – Kyiv Biennial 2017, The Kyiv International – ’68 Now (2018), and Black Cloud – Kyiv Biennial 2019.
