Anders Aarvik
Anders Aarvik is an artist, curator, etcher, system engineer, and independent researcher, who studied at Chelsea College of Arts, Royal College of Art, and Funen Art Academy. He is a frequent contributor to journals, FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software), printmaking workshops, and community-oriented initiatives and infrastructures, and exhibits his works locally and globally. They co-organise the artist-run platform cooperative called ursuppe as well as a bunch of other platforms.
Recent exhibitions include, among others, Abattoir (Copenhagen), FILET (London), Det Fynske Kunstakademi (Odense), Kunsthal Charlottenborg (Copenhagen), Grafik Galleriet (Næstved), Cromwell Place (London), HOXTON 253 (London), Weserburg Museum für Moderne Kunst (Bremen), Den Frie Centre for Contemporary art (Copenhagen), and Oped Space (Tokyo).
Anders seeks to dissolve governing social structures such as power, industry, and binarity. His works span across print, sculpture, installation, performance, text, and computation – constructing worlds, networks and objects that inquire into coexistence through a more-than-human lens. He insists on DIY, DIWO (do-it-with-others), low tech (e.g., permacomputing), and upcycling. The body and the objects related to it serve as an analogy for change and are enacted through machines such as computers and printing presses in a critical exchange where their infrastructural traces are redistributed.
