Catherine Béchard and Sabin Hudon live and work in Montreal (Canada) and have been working as a duo since 1999. Béchard holds a master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal and Hudon has a background in music. Their interdisciplinary artistic work probes the in-between spaces linked to inhabited territories, as well as the alternative temporalities of human and non-human activities intrinsic to them. Attentive listening as well as what escapes our immediate perception of the world are at the heart of their practice. They are also interested in the inherent geometry of human-built spaces and the geometry naturally present in nature. At the heart of these environments is an acoustic phenomenon – they take interest in the resonance created by vibrations generated by our daily activities; by the elements of nature in action; or by the animal world. It is with this idea in mind that the duet auscultates the sound materiality of architectures and varied grounds as well as that of marine environments. This way, they wish to open up our attention to what hums permanently in the layers of reality. These issues are central to their productions, which take the form of installations, sculptures, sound works and videos.

Their work has been presented in several cities in Canada, Croatia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Brazil, the United States and China, in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Their works are part of multiple public and private collections. Béchard and Hudon have also created two permanent public pieces in Quebec.
