Manuela Barile is an italian vocal researcher and interdisciplinary performer. Her artistic research is based on a project-oriented work that combines vocal sounds with different media (field recording, video, photography, installations, performance, improvisation, concert-performance, writing). Member of Binaural Media.

As a vocal performer she performed with Mario Volpe, Gianni Lenoci, Marcello Magliocchi, Amy Denio, Phil Minton, Tristan Honsinger, Antonio Mainenti, Rinus Van Alebeek, Rui Costa, Paulo Raposo, Antez, Ernesto Rodrigues, Nilo Gallego, Dennis Bathory-Kitsz, Madame Cell, Maile Colbert, Pali Meursault, Cédric Anglaret, etc.

In June 2006 she participated with Pino Pipoli at “Fresco Bosco” a Contemporary Art event curated by Achille Bonito Oliva in Italy. Her vocal compositions are included in various film, documentaries, video art projects (Annamaria Ippolito, Patricia Leal, Xaquin Rosales, etc.) and dance choreography (Paula Pinto). Since 2003 she collaborates with Mario Volpe and Vel Net to put forth various musical and perfomative projects.

In 2007 she started a collaboration with the portuguese sound artist Rui Costa, through a large scale intermedia project entitled ‘La Scatola’, which was conceived as a series of installations and/or performances. The Portuguese Ministry of Culture funded this project.

She directs workshops in extended vocal technics and body expression. In collaboration with Rui Costa, she directed during 2007 and 2008 a workshop, “The amplified expression of the body”, where body, voice, performance art, physical-acoustic space and sensors cross together, amplifying their expressive possibilities.
