Milica Tomić
Milica Tomić (1960, Belgrade) is professor and head of the Institute of Contemporary Art at the Technical University in Graz and was professor at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art from 2014 to 2015. She studied painting at the University of Fine Arts in Belgrade, where she graduated with a Master’s degree. In 2003 she presented Serbia / Montenegro at the 50th Venice Biennale.
Her work introduces and opens up different areas and methods of contemporary artistic practice. She raises questions about political and economic violence and social amnesia thereby trying to understand the inseparable connection between intimacy and politics. Milica Tomić is one of the founders of the new Yugoslav artistic-theoretical group »Grupa Spomenik« (2002–2014); founder of the anti-disciplinary project Four Faces of Omarska (2009–); initiator of the independent exhibition space »Annenstraße 53« in Graz, Austria (2022–).
