Born 1961 in Aix en Chapelle studied composition and instrumental performing as well as musicology and media science. As a composer and sound artist he has been working since the 1980s with the artistic possibilities of sound in audiovisual contexts. As a sound artist ("Klangkuenstler") he has been involved in a number of international festivals. Since 1992 he has been teaching at the Art and Media School Cologne, from 2000-2004 as a professor and head of the Music Department. Since 2001 he is also a professor for Contemporary Music and New Media at the University Mainz.
