Origin & Definition[edit]
- Coined by artist Kai (Kari) Altmann in 2025 to define part of her own approach to futurisms.
- Rasa or रास is a Sanskrit term meaning the essence, vibe or flavor of something, usually in relation to aesthetics and the arts. It is a major term in Indian philosophy with a deep meaning and importance. The word literally means "juice", "sap" or "nectar", as well as "emotional state of mind".
- Current generations may use words like "the sauce", "the juice" or "vibes" to describe things similar to rasa.
- Rasa is a quality that is sometimes hard to define in words, but felt through high quality creative expressions, and is said to have a beneficial effect on the mental, emotional, social and spiritual health of humans. It is also said to be reached as a result of the creator being in certain "modes"--as direct expressions of their higher states of being.
- Kai also relates this to her other terms like Sensuous Futurisms, Holistic Futurisms and Romantic Futurisms.
