Seewon Hyun

현시원 Seewon Hyun is a curator, writer, and researcher. She wrote her doctoral thesis on "Exhibition Floor Plans" in the Visual Arts program at the Graduate School of Communication at Yonsei University.

From 2013 to 2019, she co-founded with In-Yong Ahn and directed the exhibition space Audio Visual Pavilion in a hanok at 57-6 Jahamun-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul. In April 2020, she launched AVP Lab, an office-style exhibition space. As a more research-oriented space, AVP Lab has hosted exhibitions by artists such as Park Meena, Kim Dong-hee, Sasa[44], Hong Seung-hye, musician Jang Young-gyu, and the designer duo Seulgi and Min.

She has recently curated the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale (2024) and collaborated with various institutions, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Ilmin Museum of Art, Kukje Gallery, and many more. As an exhibition space director, she has been involved in various activities related to exhibition methodologies and space management.

Her publications include 1:1 Diagram (Workroom Press, 2018), Speaking Without Holding Anything in Hand (Mediabus, 2017), and Objects Touring (Hyunsil Culture, 2014). She also publishes the AVP Quarterly.

She is Assistant Professor of Media Art at the Yonsei University Graduate School of Communication and Arts in Seoul. (2025)
