(b. 1947) Lives in Novosibirsk and heads the electronic music section in the Siberian department of the Composers Union of Russia. His evolution is somewhat unusual for a computer composer. The eldest of our generation, he began to compose at a time when one could only make a traditional score on a computer. The wealth of the synthesizer's timbres directed his attention to electronic music. Yukechev is the author of three electronic sym- phonies and a great number of small electronic pieces. He is sensitive to coloring and evidently is attached to music whose structure is defined by the work's title or program. His music often has a figurative quality. Yukechev usually adds the timbres of traditional instruments to electronic sounds.
