Quadrilateral Biennale is organised by Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka since 2005. Built upon a rich tradition of regional events - Biennale of Young Yugoslav Artists (1960–1991), Biennale of Young Artists of the European Mediterranean (1993–1997) - the New Biennale is founded on the diplomatic initiative of the Quadrilateral, which since 2000 encompasses Croatia, Italy, Hungary, and Slovenia.
