Auguste Marie Louis Nicolas Lumière (19 October 1862- April 10, 1954) and Louis Jean Lumière (October 5, 1864 -June 6, 1948) were two engineers and industrial French who played a key role in the history of cinema and photography. They are often referred to as the Lumière brothers.

The Lumière brothers were born in Besançon and moved to Lyon in 1870, where both attended La Martiniere, the largest technical school in Lyon.

Color Photography

They turned their attentions to colour photography and in 1903 they patented a colour photography process, the "Autochrome Lumière", launched on the market in 1907.
