Miyazaki enrolled in Media Studies at University of Basel, which started in 2001 as a side degree and later it became a major course discipline. He studied mainly under [[Georg Christoph Tholen|Christoph Tholen]] and also with [[Wolfgang Hagen]], who were fellows and friends of [[Friedrich Kittler]]. Other notable seminars were led by political theorist [[Oliver Marchart]] or philosopher [[Byung-Chul Han]]. In 2013 he received his doctorate in Media Studies after a thesis on algorhythmics and a media archaeology of digital computing and digitality written under the supervision by [[Wolfgang Ernst]] one of Kittler's students.
