Krištof Kintera (1973) is a Czech artist who explores the boundaries of contemporary sculpture. Kintera’s practice ranges from events in public space and public installations to small kinetic devices. His best-known works include Plumbuman, Talkmen, Appliances and the memorial to suicidal deaths Of One’s Own Volition (Memento Mori).

The artist’s work has its roots in the 90s, a decade of wild capitalisation in Central and Eastern Europe accompanied by aggressive advertising campaigns in public space. It was during this period that the Appliances series was created. Kintera’s work is rooted in a relentless dialogue with everyday life, a persistent search for the relationship between the obvious and the hidden, and the revelation of the absurd in seemingly obvious situations. Kintera’s work is characterised by communicativeness and distinctive energy; he produces pieces that talk, smoke, move, bang and hum.

Kintera is also as a curator and member of the artist collective Hidden Creative Unit (Skrytá tvůrčí jednotka). [1]
